Patch Notes (Change Log)
- 5/01/25 - Orcish Oriflamme is no longer replaced by Goblin Oriflamme (keeping it old school).
- 1/1/24 - Dark Ritual is restricted.
- 7/1/19 - Orcish Oriflamme is replaced by Goblin Oriflamme (a nice throwback to the once legal misprinted Alpha version of the card).
- 4/15/19 - Acid Rain, Flashfires, and Tsunami are unbanned.
- 3/30/19 - Strip Mine is banned and replaced with Wasteland. (You may play up to 4 Wastelands.)
- 3/30/19 - Library of Alexandria is unbanned and restricted.
- 2/1/19 - "Tribal support" cards (Elvish Champion, Goblin Raider, Gravedigger, Swarm of Rats, and Tidal Warrior) are no longer included as additional cards allowed in the format.
- 5/31/18 - Library of Alexandria is banned.
- 3/3/18 - City in a Bottle is banned.
- 2/5/18 - Mind Twist is no longer replaced by Mind Shatter. Mind Twist is added to the Restricted list. We might regret this change... Turn 1 "Swamp, Dark Ritual, Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Dark Ritual, Mind Twist for 7. Go."
- 1/3/18 - Basalt Monolith is no longer replaced by Thran Dynamo. Power Artifact is moved to the banned list.
- 12/25/17 - Chaos Orb and Falling Star are banned. As Aaron Forsythe stated in 2007, "Consider the list of cards banned in Vintage to now include (all) ante cards, dexterity cards, and subgame cards. Simple."
- 7/1/16 - Recall is Restricted.
- 6/2/16 - Shocklands are added as OPTIONAL replacements for the Dual Lands. A player may run up to four in any combination of a Dual Land and it's corresponding Shockland in their deck. (A deck may contain one Tundra and three Hallowed Fountains for example.)
- 6/2/16 - Wrath of God is no longer replaced by Day of Judgement.
- 3/1/16 - Added as additional cards allowed: Arena, Sewers of Estark, and Nalathni Dragon (1994 promo cards)
- 3/1/16 - Kher Keep is no longer added as tribal support.
- 4/11/15 - Dual Lands are no longer replaced by Shocklands.
- 3/4/15 - Shahrazad is moved to the banned list and is no longer replaced by Goblin Game.
- 2/7/15 - The replacements for the 5 Moxen changed from the (Tempest) Medallions to the (Mirrodin) Talismans. The metagame has shifted more and more toward mono-colored decks (which is a poor representation of the original 94 format). These playable "mana rocks" will be a small but helpful change. Also has implications for other cards in the format including Winter Orb, Armageddon, and Balance.
- 11/1/14 - Karma is unbanned.
- 6/10/14 - Copy Artifact unrestricted.
- 4/9/14 - Merfolk Looter and festering goblin no longer added.
- 3/27/14 - Added Goblin Raider, removed Raging Goblin, removed Deathspore Thallid, removed Ravenous Rats.
Patch Nots (Watchlist)
This is a list of changes that have been considered but not implemented.
- Hymn to Tourach - is it too powerful?
- Mind Twist - should it be replaced with Mind Shatter?
- Should Braingeyser be restricted?
- Re-restrict Copy Artifact?
- Can we allow any number of Plague Rats to be in a constructed deck? Some playtesting has shown that it may be too strong.
- Should we include the enemy color Talismans? Currently we have only the allied color Talismans, which is generally on brand for the time (which provided advantage for allied color decks).
- Do we want to bring back mana burn? It would bring balance to Mana Drain and Su-Chi, and is sort of an interesting consideration with Sol Ring. Also with mana burn would come the return of Power Surge. On the down-side (up-side?) it would make Mirror Universe more abusable.
- Unban and restrict Power Artifact? (Would give more reason to restrict braingeyser.)
- Is Stasis a candidate for Restricted list?
- Tivadar's Crusade - what's with the goblin hate?
- Unrestrict Black Vise allowing 4 per deck? (Not while 4x Wasteland are allowed in decks!)
